10 WAYS TO STAY POSITIVE WHEN YOU’RE JUST DONE WITH BEING PREGNANT

October 24, 2019 No Comments

We’ve all been there.

You glide seemlessly through your first trimester (apart from the copius bathroom trips that is), have a burst of energy in your second and then suddenly you’re in your third and you’re about to explode.

Yep, this is a post for you mamas who are just DONE with being pregnant.

I’m talking, been there, bought the freaking t-shirt and ready for this babe to arrive already!

Just when you’re on the verge of despair, in I sweep to save you from your ever growing belly and impatience.

Are you ready to hear some of my life-saving tips to staying sane in your third trimester?

Here we go…

1) Delightful soak in the tub

I know you’ve probably read this before.

BUT did you actually go all out, buy the all-natural-and-yummy-smelling bubble bath to go with and treat yourself to a chocolate milkshake while reading Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth?

My guess is that you didn’t.

Woman, you are a queen and you deserve to treat yourself like one.

I believe that we often underestimate what our bodies are capable of – and it’s time to change that.

I mean, you’re going about your day to day business all the while forming brain cells and organs of a little human in your belly.

If that doesn’t deserve a lot of fuss, I don’t know what does.

So yeah, run a warm bath, hang a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and float in the blissful bubbles.

Enough said.

2) Switch off your gadgets

While we all enjoy a good scroll through Instagram to feel connected to similar women like us, there is a limit.

Yet too much time on technology can leave you feeling more stressed out than before.

If you’re guilty of spending too much time on social media – think losing track of time with your browser open – why not go on a detox?

Try putting your phone in a certain part of the house and switching off the notifications that aren’t super important.

Research has shown that blue light from our phones at night can damage our eyes, so swap it out wherever you can for a juicy novel or something else to read instead.

If you’re really struggling, make yourself accountable with someone close to you. Allow them to give you gentle reminders when it looks like you’re picking up your phone too much.

3) Do some yoga

I know the third trimester can leave you feeling stiff, trust me I’ve been there.

Just a little stretching out those legs each day can do you the world of good.

  • Helps release serotonin
  • Boosts your circulation
  • Makes you feel more relaxed
  • Prevents aches and pains like sciatic pain

Not only that, but if you get the chance to go to a class then you’ll get to meet other mommas too! My dad’s partner still has friends she met from those classes years ago!

If you don’t feel like taking classes, nowadays there are a ton of prenatal yoga workouts to choose from on Youtube.

Go for something that talks you through the breathing as well as the positions.

4) Re-purpose old clothes

Something I really enjoy doing from time to time when I need a creative buzz and I’m fed up with my old wardrobe is giving them a new purpose.

And I really think there’s no time like pregnancy when you just get fed up of seeing the clothes sitting there waiting for you to get back in to them.

You see them day in, day out that you just end up disliking stuff. At least that was my case.

Here’s a challenge:

  1. Put all the clothes you still love but no longer fit into a storage box.
  2. Now get a bag and purge all the stuff you can’t see yourself wearing anymore and donate.
  3. When you pause upon an item of clothing like ‘huh, I like the pattern, but…’ put it aside to re-work it!

Now you’ve sorted and separated your clothes, it’s time to make some funky headbands, cushions, bathroom mats – you name it with them.

5) Write a letter to a friend

When I was a little girl, I had a pen pal.

We used to write really important messages to each other about our dance classes, running clubs and new glitter pens.

Sending letters seems to be something long forgotten in today’s world.

Whilst sending a message via facebook or whatsapp can be quick and easy, there’s still something special about writing out your feelings.

Sometimes you can find yourself expressing things you just wouldn’t get round to saying otherwise.

How to cope when you're done with being pregnant

AND I bet you’ve got a lot of friends online who’s address you don’t even know! (Me too.)

Taking the time out to dedicate a little postcard or thought to an old friend will make their day and re-inforce your friendship.

Ps. It’s also a perfect way to announce your pregnancy 😉

6) Go on a babymoon

I didn’t do this myself and so wish I did!

In case you’re not familiar with the term, babymoons are like honeymoons but instead of being newlyweds, you’re newly-parents (well, very soon anyway).

Make time with your SO and book a getaway somewhere while it’s just the two of you.

The change of air will do you the world of good and snap you out of your ‘I’m about to pop’ bubble.

Not only that, it’s also a great way to chat about how you envision raising your kids, what you’re most excited about…

Ideally you will have already had that chat, but doesn’t mean you can’t dig deeper!

If you’re struggling for ideas, check out my post on THE TALK you must have before having kids.

You can plan a babymoon even with a budget! It doesn’t have to be fancy, if it’s nice weather why not drive somewhere and camp the night (be sure to take your pregnancy cushion though!).

You can make it as little or as large as you like….even a couple of day nights counts. Just get out the house, see something new!

7) Get your hair cut

YES! You’re about to be a whole new version of you that you’ve never seen before…a mama! You need a new cut to go with.

Again, doesn’t have to be anything fancy, you don’t have to go all drastic and go from super long to pixie cut overnight.

The best part? You get to raid Pinterest for Hairspiration, and boy is Pinterest full of that.

Make a board with your favourite styles and gather ideas. That way when you go to the hairdresser, she’ll have an idea of what you’re trying to emit.

Did you know you can even have something done called an energetic cut? It’s when the hairdresser cuts the parts of your hair she feels to be heaviest energy wise.

You can be as vigilant as you like with this, guiding her along or you can go all out and tell her to let her intuition guide her.

Bonus: the head massage when they shampoo you. Uhhh, makes me want to get back in one of those spinning chairs already.

PLUS you can chew her ear off. I’m pretty sure every hairdresser loves a good old chinwag.

8) Watch that series you’ve been dying to get into

You know, the one you’ve been waiting for the right moment to start…the one you’ve been patiently waiting for your spouse to cuddle up to on the sofa…

Watch it alone if no-one else wants to! Make it part of your ‘you’ time. You’re in the final stretch now, you deserve it!

Same goes with films, cartoons, documentaries…you name it.

9) Spend some time with family

Now’s a great time to surround yourself with support, if you can.

Call your mom and go out shopping together, go to that museum your dad’s always wanted to go to..

Or simply make a date to go out to dinner somewhere and spend some time together.

There will of course be plenty of moments once your babe is here too, but it won’t quite be the same.

Reminisce over old times together, get out the photo box and tell them your favourite memories.

You’re still their little girl in your hearts and they’ll be happy to spoil you with affection, I’m sure.

10) Go to a concert

Even in a local pub, watching live music is a real buzz. Go crazy on the orange juice and let yourself get carried away from the energy of the band.

Even better, this is something you can do with friends, so call them up and organise to go together.

Let your hair down and let loose. You never know who you might inspire to do exactly the same.

Music is known to be a healer, so get your groove on!
